27   LO returns from 43 Div - now in sp of no one Orders recd to move to div conc area across the RHINE North of WESEL.
28   Mov to conc area by Regt gps of wheels and tracks via GOCH-GELDERN-WESEL. Arrive conc area in afternoon Op orders recd for commencement of adv next day at 1200 hrs by normal Bde Gps, 29 Armd Bde leading; 29 Armd Bde consist of 23H, 3 R Tks, 2 FF Yeo, and 8 RB with the Regt under comd. FOOs normal - except that BC G Bty and Capt Budgen are in sp of sqn of Inns of Court Regt.
29   Op begins. Going extremely bad. Very muddy. Many tks bogged. Comet takes it worst. Cromwell OPs not so bad, because lighter, but not much in it. Sherman and Rams better, probably on account of greater clearance and better tracks. CO's Cromwell in getting out of deep mud rut breaks idler. Bde reaches HEIDEN East of BORKEN.
30   Good Friday. 2 IC goes on UK leave. Major Davies (I Bty) to RHQ as 2 IC. FF Yeo to Inf Bde. Armd Bde was re-grouped as follows: 23 H & 8 RB and G Bty; 3 R Tks and 4 KSLI and H Bty: I Bty spare. FOOs normal, except that Capt Budgen still with Inns of Court until early afternoon. Capt Young with CO. Bde adv North of COESFELD to EMSDETTEN. Nasty pockets on route. Br across EMS blown. KSLI attack by night to MESUM - no opp.
31   Bridging of EMS at MESUM. Across it in evening and on to DORTMUND-EMS Canal at RIESENBACH and BIRGTE.
