Field 1-4   Remained in Rest Area and carried out maintenance.
5   Recced our positions which we are to take over from Guards Armd Div on the 7th. No. 1 Indep MG Coy NF were all in good heart. We were all surprised to see Major HB Van der Gucht in command as we did not think his nerves would allow him to take part in active ops again. 30 Corps Comd paid a visit to the Bde. See Appendix J.1
6   Coy were paraded and taken to the cinema in BREE for an address by the Div Comd in the morning. Brigadier Sperling held a conference to tie up move and take over. Appendix E.1 and E.2
7   Moved. 12, 13 & 15 Pls took up positions during the morning. 14 Pl owing to the position being under obsorvation during the day was not able to take over until darkness.
8   Remained in same positions.
9   We met No. 1 Indep MG Coy NF for the first time and we played them at football and got beaten 4 - 1.
10-16   Nothing of any importance took place. Pls remained in same positions. Op Shears which was to have taken place was cancelled.
17   12, 13, & 14 Pls came out of the line and their positions were taken over by No. 1 Indep MG Coy NF of the Guards Armd Div. 14 Pls handover was done at night to avoid enemy observation. There was enemy air activity during the night and civilians reported paratroops landing in area.
18   We moved into a big school in SITTARD and had all the Coy in school with exception of 15 Pl.
19   We were shelled during the night but no casualties.
20-21   Remained in same location. 14 Pl dug positions. See Appendix E 3
22   Very heavy shelling during the night. No casualties.
23   Moved to GELEEN. 12 & 13 PIs went back into the line.
24   Remained in same locality.
25   14 Pl and Coy HQ had dinner together with an excellent spread layed by the Nuns. 13 Pl had one section to their PI HQ and gave them an excellent dinner. 12 PI also put up a very good show in their billet.
26   14 PI took over from 15 Pl and 15 Pl joined Coy HQ.
27   Remained in same locations.
28   15 Pl had their Christmas dinner.
29-31   Remained in same locations.
