This stone is a memorial to the brave men and ships of the
23rd Destroyer Flotilla.

Already hardened veterans of the Arctic convoys
On the 6.6.1944 they arrived off Sword Beach at 02.40,
Closed the beach at 05.30 and opened fire at 06.30
